South Sea Tidal Wave Damages Dozens of Stalls on Depok Beach, Bantul | merdeka.com

Merdeka.com – A tidal wave hit the southern coast of Java Island, Saturday (16/7). This tidal wave caused damage to Depok Beach, Bantul Regency, DIY.

Dozens of semi-permanent stalls in Depok Beach were damaged due to the brunt of the tidal wave.

Food vendor in Depok Beach, Warsiti (38) explained that his shop, which is 15 meters from the beach, was damaged by the tidal wave. Warsiti explained that the tidal wave occurred at around 08.00 WIB.

“The water started to get high at 07.00 to 08.00 in the morning. The water hit me immediately and my stall was damaged because the building was only made of bamboo and asbestos,” said Warsiti.

The damage to his stall caused Warsiti to temporarily switch sales. Warsiti said that after being repaired and the sea waves were no longer high, she would return to selling.

“Yes, I will sell again later. Usually it will be back in a month as before. Meanwhile, I will move the merchandise and furniture for selling first,” explained Warsiti.

Meanwhile, the Head of Parangtritis Village, Topo, explained that since the past week the tidal wave on Depok Beach was considered quite high. Topo said that usually high tides occur on the west side of Depok Beach and this is the first time it has occurred on the east side.

Topo explained that when the tidal wave hit and damaged the traders’ stalls, there were no casualties. Topo’s further losses are in the form of material only.

Topo added that the Parangtritis village government had repeatedly warned traders not to sell on the lips of Depok Beach. However, the traders still did not comply.

“This incident is a warning for traders. We still advise traders not to sell on the beach. If you obey, Alhamdulillah. If not, then the risk is like this and must be borne by yourself. So let’s fix the traders first (the rules for selling locations),” concluded Topo .
