Merdeka.com – The Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, appreciated Indonesia’s agricultural achievements which for the last three years were able to meet domestic needs, so the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) awarded the national rice self-sufficiency award.
“Appreciation because we have achieved food self-sufficiency. And in the last three years we have not imported rice so we have received an award from IRRI,” said Basuki in the International Webinar on Food Security: Feed 10 Billion And Launching E20 which was held in JakartaMonday (12/9).
Basuki said PUPR will remain with the Ministry of Agriculture in uniting forces for national food security. One of them is building infrastructure such as irrigation, dams and dams.
“I’m from PU, I definitely support him (Minister of Agriculture) in this matter of water supply. Right, agriculture has 5 components. First, soil, second seeds, third fertilizer, fourth farmers, and fifth water. This water component is 18 percent for production, if not all the water is lost. Therefore, he and I are still side by side, we must not be separated,” he said.
Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo (Mentan SYL) expressed his gratitude for the support of all parties to the course of Indonesia’s agricultural development. He hopes that this support can be implemented through strong networking collaborations in maintaining national food security.
“Of course, our thanks go to the President and the farmers who have done an extraordinary job in presenting optimal efforts for our food security,” he said.
SYL added, the food sector is a key sector in supporting the growth and development of the national economy in the midst of a pandemic. Moreover, the food sector is also a sector that contributes to health.
“It is also necessary to understand that food is not just food, food is also a job, food drives energy for various activities, including our industry and buildings. Also human health,” he explained.
