Merdeka.com – The chairman of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Tauhid Ahmad assessed that the DPR’s proposal regarding the elimination of 450 VA household customers to absorb excess energy owned by PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) Persero was inappropriate.
According to him, the excess energy should be resolved by distributing it to various areas that still lack electricity. Especially outside the island of Java, which often experience power cuts for hours.
“I don’t think this excess power should increase consumption. This excess power should be channeled to areas that lack it,” said Tauhid when contacted by merdeka.com at JakartaTuesday (13/9).
Tauhid said that in Java, electricity was in excess. Meanwhile, outside Java, there are still many areas that lack energy. For example in Kalimantan, Sulawesi and other areas where electricity reserves are still lacking.
“The reserves are enlarged to areas that are lacking,” he said.
Especially in underdeveloped, outermost and leading (3T) areas. This includes islands and border areas. “Electricity is still a problem here. Now it’s better to distribute it to the area,” he said.
Previously, the Head of the Budget Agency (Banggar), Said Abdullah explained that the elimination of 450 VA power for household customers was aimed at absorbing excess energy owned by PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) Persero. Considering that the additional power can increase PLN’s electricity demand.
“If we are successful, on the one hand, we want the oversupply to decrease because demand rises from 450 to 900,” Said said in a Working Committee to Discuss the 2023 Draft Bill at the DPR Complex, quoted on Tuesday (14/9).
Moreover, Said said, if the government started distributing electric stoves to the public. Thus, in addition to reducing LPG imports, the transition to the use of induction cookers will also increase household demand for electricity.
“At the same time, our addiction to imports will slowly begin to decrease, that’s what we will pursue,” he said. [azz]
