Merdeka.com – A Sumatran tiger was arrested by the Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) team, after disturbing some of the people of South Aceh. The tiger is said to often prey on livestock and threaten the safety of local residents.

The tiger entered a trap set by the Aceh BKSDA in the Aroya Swimming bathing tourist area, Lhok Bengkuang Village, Tapaktuan District, South Aceh Regency, some time ago.

“When the team checked into the trap box, a tiger had entered it,” said Aceh BKSDA Head Agus Arianto, Monday (25/7).

Agus explained that the protected animal had been roaming the residential area of Lhok Bengkuang, Tapaktuan District, and reportedly preyed on a number of community livestock for the past two weeks.

The Aceh BKSDA then deployed a tiger handler and set a number of traps in the tiger’s roaming area.

Agus Arianto said he could not provide information about the sex, age and health of the tiger. He is still waiting for a report from the BKSDA Aceh protected wildlife management team who is heading to South Aceh to conduct an inspection.

“This team will later handle and observe the tiger,” he said.

After being handled, the plan is that the Sumatran tiger will be released back into its habitat. “Later, we will survey the release site, conducted in parallel with the team from the Gunung Leuser National Park Center,” he concluded.
