Merdeka.com – President Joko Widodo pointed to the five regencies/cities with the highest inflation rates. The regional heads in the five regions are required to immediately intervene so that inflation can be controlled.
Among them are Luwuk City, Central Sulawesi 7.8 percent; Jambi City, Jambi 7.7 percent; Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan 7.6 percent; Sampit City, Central Kalimantan 7.5 percent; and Tanjung Selor City, North Kalimantan 7.4 percent.
“These are the districts and cities with the highest inflation, please take a look and immediately intervene in the field,” he ordered Jokowi when giving directions on controlling inflation with all regional heads at the State Palace, Monday (12/9).
Jokowi also flicked 5 out of 10 provinces with high inflation rates, namely; Jambi, West Sumatra, Bangka Belitung, Aceh, Riau Islands, Central Kalimantan, Maluku, Papua, Bali, Central Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara, Riau, South Kalimantan, Lampung, Bengkulu, Yogyakarta, North Kalimantan, South Sumatra, North Sumatra, Jambi , Central Java, South Sulawesi, and East Kalimantan.
Jokowi ordered the province to immediately record any supplies that experienced price increases, as well as record the origin of the goods. “There must be data and if there are still people who don’t know about this, they should ask the trade minister for information,” he said.
He also briefly touched on the sensitivity of regional heads to current conditions. “If there is an increase in the price of goods and services and the regional head is silent, it means he does not understand inflation. Be careful with this word, inflation,” said Jokowi.
As is known, the increase in the price of basic needs has been a serious concern by President Joko Widodo. He encouraged local governments to provide subsidies for food transportation to control inflation.
“For example, the price of shallots goes up, if I’m not mistaken, most of them are from Brebes. How much is the transportation from Brebes to Lampung? IDR 3 million, meaning that the transportation costs are IDR 3 million covered by the local government,” said Jokowi.
According to the former governor of DKI Jakarta Therefore, if all local governments contribute to the provision of food transport subsidies, then inflation can be controlled. If inflation is under control, food prices will not increase.
Jokowi even suggested that local governments buy directly the community’s main food commodities, such as eggs, from chicken farmers. “From the breeder it is then sent to the market so that the price sold in the market is the price from the breeder,” he said.
Jokowi added, while food transportation is supported by local governments, unexpected expenditures can also be diverted to social assistance (Bansos) as a result of rising fuel prices.BBM). This concept, said Jokowi, had been carried out while serving as the Mayor of Solo.
“I did this when I was the mayor by covering the transportation costs so that we could lower inflation at that time,” he concluded.
