FACT CHECK: Mc Donald’s Denies Writing About Obesity on Twitter | merdeka.com

Merdeka.com – A screenshot uploaded from Twitter circulated using the name of an American fast food company, Mc Donald’s.

The post on September 8, 2022, shows a verified Instagram account and a blue tick writing that obesity and being overweight are the result of construction.

The narration contained in the screenshot is in Indonesian:

The terms “fat” and the BMI scale were coined by the settler agency and are inherently anti-black. There is no “overweight” person, no one body type determines what another body shape looks like. Please don’t give fatphobia a seat at your desk.”

It appears that the upload has received likes from 25,000 accounts and more than 100 retweets.

The fact check team searched the official Twitter account, @McDonalds for information about the upload. As a result, there was no sentence like the one in the screenshot on the official Twitter account.

In addition, as reported by kompas.com, if the tweet really came from an official account, it is possible that many Twitter accounts were busy responding so that the topic became a viral conversation on the blue application.

The search is also carried out by looking at trusted news sources, namely reuters. In the article, McDonald’s expressed a rebuttal regarding the spread of tweets on social media.

“This is a fake and unpublished post from the official McDonald’s account,” explained the McDonald’s company.

The obesity narrative that carries the name Mc Donald’s is false. This was also confirmed directly by Mc Donald’s.

Don’t be easy to believe and check every information you get. Make sure it comes from a trusted source, so it can be justified.
