Drink Before Sleeping, Is It Really Healthy?

Suara.com – With the reason to keep the body hydrated, not a few of us have the habit drink before sleeping. However, some refuse to do it because they are worried that their sleep will be disturbed because of the urge to urinate in the middle of the night.

Then, which one is correct? is drink before bed can really nourish the body?

Sleep disorder specialist Jessica Vensel Rundo, MD, MS, explains why you should watch how much water you drink before bed.

“In general, we don’t recommend drinking a lot of water before going to bed, but just a little is good,” said dr. Vensel Rundo, as reported by the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Rundo then suggests that you stop drinking water two hours before bedtime. This way, you don’t overwhelm your body with extra fluids that can cause sleep disturbances due to the urge to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

While staying hydrated is important, a good night’s rest is just as important. If your sleep is constantly interrupted every night to go to the toilet, of course this can worsen the quality of your sleep, and risk lowering your immune system.

So, instead of drinking before bed with the aim of keeping the body hydrated, dr. Rundo advises you to maintain fluid balance throughout the day in the following ways:

  • Drink water with every meal.
  • Stay hydrated after exercise.
  • Get extra water from fruits and vegetables.
