Bulog Guarantees Frozen Buffalo Meat Imports From India Free of PMK

Suara.com – Perum Bulog asking people not to panic about the issue Mouth and Nail Disease (PMK) in cattle. Because, buffalo meat frozen from India free from FMD.

Business Director of Perum Bulog, Febby Novita, explained that his team and his team immediately flew to India to conduct direct inspections of the tracing and slaughtering process and transportation of livestock production in India.

The team has carried out inspections from the farmer stage to the production house in randomly selected areas to check the procedures implemented by the frozen meat suppliers.

Prior to shipping to Indonesia, the buffalo meat imported by Bulog is confirmed to only come from suppliers who have received halal certification from the Indonesian Ulema Council and permission to supply it to Indonesia from the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture.

“In addition, frozen meat products must meet the criteria for animal health and be declared fit for human consumption as stated in a health certificate from the Veterinary Institute in India,” said Febby in a discussion at the Food & Hotel Exhibition. Indonesia, JIEXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta, Wednesday (27/7/2022).

Febby continued, Bulog also regularly conducts PCR tests at the Farma Veterinary Center. This is to reassure the issue of PMK on beef and buffalo.

“When they arrived in Indonesia, the buffalo meat was immediately inspected for each container by the Tanjung Priok Quarantine Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and given a certificate,” he said.

With the current stock of frozen buffalo meat controlled by Bulog, which has arrived as much as 57 thousand tons, Buloh has succeeded in helping to overcome the needs of the surge in demand and the price of frozen meat starting from Ramadan and Eid until now.

On the same occasion, the Director of Veterinary Public Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Nuryani Zainuddin, emphasized that FMD in animals does not endanger human health, so meat and milk are still safe for consumption.

“Animal products that are processed with proper handling are able to kill viruses so they are safe for distribution. This correct handling can also support efforts to prevent the spread of FMD in animals and the surrounding environment,” concluded Nuryani.
